
Whether you 100% believe in God, or 100% don't, either way your religious beliefs are a huge part of your identity. Most of the time we pass our own beliefs on to our kids, whatever they are.
"I'm not teaching my kid to believe in things with no scientific proof!"
Religion can still have many benefits without actually being proven. It can be used to set a foundation for moral standards. Knowing that “God is watching” is a valuable tool of regulation The concept of going to Hell can be effective at not doing something bad when the temptation comes. The Bible has been dubbed: Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.
There are stories in the bible that provide valuable comfort and morality, regardless of whether you think they really happened or not. The ten commandments are absolutely fantastic guidelines for all children to learn. "Noah's Arc" is a must read for all children.
"There is nothing more important that I can teach my kids than God."
Sure. Faith has saved countless souls from despair. If your faith has brought you salvation, then yes, of course share with your kids what has helped you.
But, as far as child psychology goes, I'm about to say something controversial. - Let your kids make their own decisions about religion. Let them decide if they believe in God or not, and if they do, let them choose which religion they prefer.
I know this is never done, but this approach will result in the child developing the most balanced response to the worlds most heated debate.
"But don't kids need stability and security?"
They most certainly do. And giving them the respect and trust of making an independent decision about a major subject will give them strong stability and security.
Summary
We all want to know what happens to us when we die. We all want to know who created the earth and the universe. We all want good people to be rewarded, and evil people to be punished. We all want to know that there is a higher power that protects us. It's not my place to provide those answers. But I will say that religion does. Even if you want to raise your kids with science alone, science admits that there are things that exist that science still can not explain.
